Canadian composer Dr. Mark Mitchell has a wide range of professional experience as a composer, pianist, arranger, conductor and educator. He has mastered an eclectic mix of both classical and popular styles. His choral works have been performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Vancouver Cantata Singers, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir among many others. Some orchestral works have been commercially recorded; others have had professional performances in Ottawa, Edmonton, Montreal and New York City. This site contains dozens of self published works but he also has many commercial publications to his credit.
Most of his work is done here in his home studio where, aside from personal projects, he works for clients with a range of musical needs, from composing and arranging to score creation, song production and midi recording. Using Cubase and Kontakt along with several thousand dollars worth of professional instrument samples, he can create orchestral scores that are very close to the sound of a live orchestra.
From 1993 to 2006 Mark worked in Ottawa and Montreal as a composer and sound designer for computer games where he honed his computer skills and stylistic palette, creating music and sound effects for interactive, in-game use and for more cinematic “cut scenes”.
Since moving to Magrath, Alberta in 2015 he has been commissioned by the Alberta Mormon Trail Committee to compose the music for four full-length musicals celebrating local history, in collaboration with Jonathon Penny, lyricist and playwright. The fourth and final play debuted in November 2019.
